We’re excited you’ve added our club decal to your MINI. Follow these simple steps to ensure a clean installation and long-lasting results.
Before You Begin
You’ll need:
- Your SoCal Mini Club decal
- A clean microfiber towel
- Optional: 70% Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
- Painter’s or masking tape
- A plastic squeegee or credit card wrapped in a microfiber cloth
Step 1: Choose the Perfect Location
Before removing the backing paper:
- Hold the decal in place using masking tape.
- Step back and check that it’s centered and level.
- Common placement locations include:
- Rear hatch glass
- Rear side windows
- Lower corner of the windshield
- Body panels (clean, smooth paint only)
Pro Tip: Measure twice, apply once!
Step 2: Clean the Surface
A clean surface is the key to a decal that lasts.
- Wash the area if needed.
- Wipe the installation area with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
- Allow it to dry completely.
Avoid applying over:
- Wax
- Ceramic spray detailers
- Dirt or dust
- Moisture
Step 3: Apply the Decal
Dry Application (Recommended)
- Secure the top edge with masking tape to create a hinge.
- Lift the decal and slowly peel away the backing paper.
- Carefully lower the decal onto the surface.
- Starting in the center, use your squeegee to press outward, removing air bubbles as you go.
Work slowly—there’s no rush!
Step 4: Remove the Transfer Tape
Wait 5–15 minutes before removing the transfer tape.
Slowly peel the transfer tape back against itself (at a low 180° angle).
If any part of the decal lifts:
- Press it back down.
- Squeegee again.
- Wait a few more minutes before trying again.
Step 5: Let It Cure
For the strongest bond:
- Avoid washing your MINI for 24–48 hours.
- Wait 72 hours before using an automatic car wash.
- Hand washing is always the best option for preserving vinyl decals.
Best Installation Conditions
For the best results:
- Temperature: 60–75°F
- Install in the shade.
- Avoid direct sunlight.
- Do not install if the surface is hot or below 50°F.
Troubleshooting
Air Bubbles
Small bubbles often disappear after a day or two.
If needed:
- Press the air out gently with your thumb or squeegee.
Decal Won’t Stick
Usually caused by:
- Wax or polish left on the surface
- Dirt or dust
- Installing in temperatures that are too cold or too hot
Clean the area again and reapply pressure.
Care Tips
Your SoCal Mini Club decal is made from premium outdoor vinyl and is designed to last for years with proper care.
To keep it looking great:
- Hand wash whenever possible.
- Avoid high-pressure water directly on the decal edges.
- Don’t scrape the decal with ice scrapers or abrasive tools.
